Cross-Border and International Employment Law
With a dedicated global network of lawyers, we provide clients with pragmatic, practical advice on operating internationally with your key business goals in mind. Our specialist teams around the world help you navigate complex issues while working to your commercial needs.
Overview
Our team provides expert guidance on cross-border employment law regulation and compliance that aligns with international business needs in today's globalised world.
Our employment team assists multinationals, and those aspiring to operate across borders, by distilling complex and locally nuanced legal concepts into clear, pragmatic advice that can be used to support your strategic business objectives.
We work with a comprehensive network of trusted employment lawyers across all continents, including our specialist in-house employment law teams based in Dublin and Chile, to provide our clients with a single and consistent source of advice.
With a proven track record of understanding our clients’ expectations, we are confident that our network delivers the same quality of service our clients have come to expect for UK matters. Our lawyers consistently demonstrate their ability to work to strict protocols around cost, service delivery, and commerciality.
It is important to us that we provide clients with certainty over their legal costs. So, in most cases, we deliver cross-border project work based on an agreed capped fee.
Featured experience
- Advising on a 21 country restructuring project for the world's largest security technology group. The complex matter involved works councils in both France and Germany and collective dismissals in Italy and Spain as well as advice in lesser known jurisdictions from South Korea, to Kenya to Guatemala. Our support enabled the client to announce in all jurisdictions, on the same date, complying with local law.
- Acting on the licence of our client's ophthalmology gene therapy to a competitor in all its markets outside the UK in a commercial deal worth up to $170m. This impacted employees under the Acquired Rights Directive in nine jurisdictions across the Middle East and South America. We were able to advise on this short-turnaround project, including preparing the documentation in each jurisdiction, choreographing the announcement day itself, and preparing and negotiating the settlement packages.
- Acting for one of the top five global investment banks on its compliance project. The client's aim was to publish centralised and uniform employee-facing data protection documents across its 25 European jurisdictions. Using our network of partner firms we coordinated the review and produced a single source information document, with linked standalone guidance for each jurisdiction where additional information was required to comply with local law.
