George Aubrey and Carle Aven-Kamal started their general civil pupillage at 8DB yesterday and will gain from the wealth of experience of their respective pupil supervisors, Katie Walmsley and David Fardy, and 8DB’s Practice Manager, Wendy Shaw.
8DB, which launched in January 2021, was granted approval by the Bar Standards Board to become an authorised provider of pupillage in 2022 and is one of only a handful of providers of pupillages at the employed Bar. Pupils who successfully complete the year-long pupillage with 8DB will be offered roles as employed barristers and given all the resources, support and guidance of an international legal business to grow and develop their practices.
“I am delighted that George and Carle were successful in securing pupillage with 8DB and are continuing their journey at the employed Bar with us,” commented Jonathan Robinshaw, head of 8DB and a partner in DACB’s Claims Solutions Group. “When we set up 8DB just over two years ago, the creation of our own pupillage scheme was always a central element of our sustainable growth strategy. It gives us the ability to attract high quality talent from the wider market and enables us to retain top talent from within the team.”
DACB launched 8DB in order to provide insurer and commercial clients with access to the full suite of litigation and dispute resolution services, in one place, with increased security and quality assurance. Jonathan Robinshaw was brought in to build and lead the new initiative, having established in-house advocacy teams previously. 8DB’s counsel and advocates service clients across the majority of DACB’s practice areas, including Motor, Casualty, Credit Hire, Property Disputes, Costs, Inquests and Commercial Disputes/International Arbitration.
