DAC Beachcroft's Real Estate team has advised Derbion, the leading shopping destination in Derbyshire, on securing new leases that will repurpose retail space for leisure and communal use.
Coinciding with the completion of Derbion's Eastern Gateway development, the enhanced East Midlands retail destination – the largest in the region - will feature a skate park and a 55,000 sq ft padel venue, including ten padel courts.
Leases have been agreed with Social Sports Society and Flo Skatepark, with both operators set to launch at the venue in the autumn. The move marks a significant step in growing the centre’s offering.
The DACB team was led by Alison Key, partner and Head of DACB's Real Estate team, supported by DACB associate Alex Wilkins.
Alison commented, "The move towards leisure and communal uses is part of a wider trend we’re seeing across the sector, and it’s exciting to be at the forefront of that transformation. We’re proud to have supported Derbion in securing leases that reflect the evolving nature of retail spaces. This project showcases the depth of expertise within our team, particularly in navigating complex lease negotiations that enable innovative repurposing of commercial property."
