We understand the reputational and financial impact claims can have on educational institutions. We appreciate these can often be sensitive matters, so we work closely with you to ensure that issues are resolved quickly, in the best interest of those involved.

Overview

We act for a range of universities, schools, and other educational establishments and their insurers. Our specialist education claims team regularly deals with complaints and claims made by, or on behalf of, students and prospective students.

We can advise from the earliest stages of the internal complaint process, OIA complaints, pre-action engagement, judicial review, court action, appeals, and ADR. We are used to working on a direct instruction basis or on a joint retainer with your insurers. Our experience includes dealing with:

  • Claims under the Equality Act 2010
  • Claims for failure to educate and/or failure to supervise (e.g. PhD students)
  • Claims and complaints arising from allegations of sexual misconduct
  • Student contract claims, including claims under consumer law
  • Admission claims
  • Disciplinary matters and fitness to practise

As well as efficient defence strategies, we deliver expert risk assessment and are used to working collaboratively with outside advisers to ensure minimisation of any reputational damage.
